Dinosaur Quarry Visitor Center is on Utah Highway 149, off US Highway 40. WHEN TO VISIT Open year round; however, backcountry and canyon roads are closed in Winter due to snow. Peak visitor month is July. Winters are cold and snowy, Summers are hot. POINTS OF INTEREST Spectacular canyons were cut by the Green and Yampa Rivers through upfolded mountains. A quarry contains fossil remains of dinosaurs and other ancient animals. ACTIVITIES Visitor Center; museum/exhibits; NPS guided tours; self-guiding tours/trails; picnic areas; campgrounds; backcountry use; hiking; boating; fishing. GENERAL INFORMATION The Dinosaur Quarry building contains a fossil-filled cliff exposing Jurassic period dinosaur bones. White-water rafting on the Green and Yampa rivers are among the many activities to be enjoyed in the area. Campsites are open May through October. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in Dinosaur, Rangely, Craig, Vernal, and Jensen.
